2.5-mile barrier beach on Katama Bay on the south side of Martha's Vinyard; The ocean side has high surf and there is a salt pond on the other side; Features 4.5 miles of walking trails and sandy roads, and 1.8 miles of oversand vehicle trails; Open to oversand vehicles by permit only; NO LIFEGUARDS; VERY DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS; POSSIBLE SHARKS; State owned South Beach adjoins at the western end; Norton Point was connected to Chappaquiddick until 2007 when a storm caused a breach; Open year-round; Free to pedestrians; Oversand vehicle permits available
