Chicopee River Canal Rail Trail

The short original section that opened in 2009 runs 1100 feet from the Davitt Bridge to Grape Street; Parking is available along Front Street; A planned extension that will run for about 1.1 miles from Grape Street to Ellerton Street may be completed in 2016

Columbia Greenway Rail Trail

The first section opened in 2012 and runs 1.5 miles from Shaker Farms Country Club north to Little River; The second section opened in October 2014 and runs from Little River north to East Silver Street; Other sections are under construction or planned to extend the trail north to the Westfield River by 2016 for a total of 3.2 miles; The southern end connects to the 7-mile Southwick Rail Trail; There is a parking lot behind the Shaker Farms Country Club at 866 Shaker Road

Connecticut River Walk and Bikeway

Paved path along the Connecticut River that runs from the Chicopee town line to the South End Bridge in Springfield and passes behind the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Note that the walkway dead ends behind the automobile dealership before the South End Bridge. Parking and trail access is available at North Riverfront Park (121 West Street) and at the Basketball Hall of Fame (1000 Hall Fame Avenue). This walkway passes through inner urban areas where encounters with criminals and homeless people is possible. Safety may be a concern to visitors. At times bad odors from the sewage treatment plant across the river may blow over the area. This walkway was supposed to connect to the Agawam section, but was never completed. A paved path that runs alongside River Road and the Connecticut River; It starts at Borgati Park and ends at School Street (near the South End Bridge); It was originally intended to connect to the South End Bridge and the Springfield Riverwalk, but that connection was never completed. Parking is available at Borgati Park.

A fairly short trail along the banks of the Housatonic River in two sections; See website for map; Located in downtown Great Barrington behind private properties; There are stairs to enter the north section; Free; Address and GPS coordinates are for the main parking area

Ice Glen

Footbridge over the river leads to 3 trails - Mary Flynn trail, along river, is paved; cross railroad tracks to get to Ice Glen; at fork: right trail leads to Ice Glen (glacial boulders & ice crystals), left fork leads to Laura's Tower (view of 3 states)

Keystone Arch Bridges Trail

A 2.5 mile trail along the CSX Railroad & the Westfield River from Chester into Middlefield and Becket; there are several stone railroad bridge arches to be viewed; beware of hunters, drop-offs, flooding, and trains (which still use the track)

Mahican-Mohawk Trail

A proposed 100-mile hiking trail from the from the Connecticut River in Deerfield to the Hudson River in New York that follows an ancient Native American route; Currently only some sections of this trail are open

Metacomet-Monadnock Trail

117 miles; also known as M&M Trail; extends from West Suffield Mountain on the CT border up through Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Worcester counties into New Hampshire; connects to the Metacomet Trail in CT & Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway in NH

Redstone Rail Trail

A paved trail over a former railroad running from Denslow Road (behind Hasbro) to Maple Street (at Carlin Combustion Technology and Leahy Field near the rotary); There is also trail access on Chesnut Street and Industrial Drive; Limited free parking along the trail at Maple St, Industrial Drive, and Denslow Rd; Path opened in September 2010 and mostly runs behind businesses and buildings

Sandwich Boardwalk

This is a quarter mile long boardwalk over a salt marsh that stretches from Town Neck Beach to Boardwalk Road. There are scenic views of the marsh, beach, and Cape Cod Bay. National Geographic's website voted it the 3rd best boardwalk in USA. Parking is available in the lot on Boardwalk Road or Wood Avenue.

Southern New England Trunkline Trail

A former railroad line that runs 55 miles from Providence to Worcester and Boston; Currently it mainly connects Franklin State Forest to Douglas State Forest, passing through Douglas, Uxbridge, Millville, Blackstone, Bellingham, and Franklin; The trail connects to many other state trails; It offers pedestrian access, mountain biking, horse riding, and cross-country skiing; Large portions of the trail are unimproved

A 7 mile paved path following a former train rail from the Connecticut border to Westfield; The southern end connects to the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Granby, CT; The northern end connects to the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail in Westfield, MA; Limited parking is available along Miller Road (off of Congamond Road)
